It is clear that nostalgia has already become one of the great reefs to exploit, especially in the video game industry. And it is that although Fortnite or Call of Duty gather figures of fans never seen before, those who were once children in front of arcade machines, are now adults with their own income. That is why large companies began to launch consoles such as the NES Mini, PS Classic or the MegaDrive Mini, in a more compact and practical format, but with all the charm of the originals.
But what happens when the original was already small? This has been the case of the Sega Game Gear Micro, a curious way to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary by reducing its portable console to a size of just 80 x 43 millimeters, now perfectly compatible for any pocket.
However, many will see in this size, and especially for its screen, a device quite difficult to manage. And is that the Sega Game Gear Micro itself is shipped with a magnifying glass accessory or Big Window, with which we can expand the screen to the same size as the original console.
However, the fact of having opted for such a small size implies a notable reduction of its internal components, limiting the number of games to just four titles. Something that has led Sega to present up to four different variants and colors, each with a different selection of games. Thus, we can find great classics from the 90s such as Sonic The Hedgehog, OutRun, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Royal Stone, Baku Baku Animal, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale, Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Shining Force, Megami Tensei Gaiden, Columns or The GG Shinobi; Although if we really want to get hold of everyone, we must acquire the complete Sega Game Gear Micro collection.
Currently the Sega Game Gear Micro has only opened its demand to pre-orders in Japan, with an official release date for October 6 of this year, under an individual price of 4,980 yen (approximately 40 euros) or a pack with the complete set for 29,980 yen (approximately 245 euros). So, although its release in the west has not been announced at the moment, it is expected that, like its previous retro mini console, we can count on it during the following months.
