A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to introduce you to the new Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020). A tablet that -like other models of the company- can go through the best of the market attending to its excellent price / features ratio. The problem comes from certain commitments in the software section.
As we saw in previous models, Amazon tablets limit the possibilities of Android through its own system called FireOS. It is an Android version that goes far beyond simple customization or the addition of the usual user interface layer, and block access to Google services or to the official Google Play store.
Fire OS fills it all and takes it all with Amazon services and apps everywhere. Not bad for a Prime subscriber who has access to those services, but an Android user needs other types of software or games that are not available from the base. Make no mistake, today Android is Google and most of us cannot do without YouTube, Maps or Gmail.
How to install Google Play and other apps on Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020)
Clarify that the method that we are going to offer you does not include a complete root of the tablet (as we did in Fire 7) and you will continue to run Fire OS instead of a standard Android. Only that you will have access to the applications and services of Google, and others of third parties by means of the following step by step:
Third party apps
Access the Configuration tool.
Select the Security and privacy option.
Find and select the “Applications from Unknown Sources” option.
Tap the Amazon Silk browser option.
Slide the lever that allows Silk to install applications from unknown sources.
From that moment you can download and install applications from sources other than the Amazon Appstore, from media such as APKMirror, always observing the necessary security measures to install apps outside of official stores.
Once the previous step is done, to access Google services and apps you will have to install the following files and in the order listed. Just keep in mind that if this is your first time downloading something with the Silk browser that is installed by default on the Amazon Fire HD 8, you will need to grant it access to local storage before you can continue.
After downloading each file, you will see a pop-up alert asking if you want to install the application. Simply accept and install each of them in the order proposed. Once installed, restart the tablet, look for the Play Store icon and log in with your Google account. From there you should be able to download and install most of the applications available in the Google Play Store.
It is not a root and it is certainly not necessary for a user who wants to maintain FireOS and access to the Amazon app store, but also to that of Google. Yes, it should be mentioned that its operation is not guaranteed as we would achieve by installing an alternative version of Android and obtaining a complete experience.
