Edge cloud technology provider Fastly has announced the launch of its new Developer Hub, a unique resource portal which allows developers to create applications on the company’s platform.
Having quality documentation and resources for development is key. The time invested in searching for hidden or inaccessible materials is time that is subtracted from tasks such as optimizing sites and processes. With this idea in mind, the Fastly Developer Hub has been designed, a portal that offers centralized access to the tools developers need to build applications on the company’s edge cloud platform.
In the Developer Hub, you can find a sandbox test environment, ready-to-deploy code snipets, and a growing repository of structured tutorials, reference materials, and documentation. In addition, it provides special attention to user experience, with improved navigation, while the developer-friendly search system indexes content based on different categorizations, such as command type or use case, allowing developers to discover additional related content.
“The Fastly Developer Hub is one of the best developer resources we have today. Documentation, code snippets, and a variety of use cases will save our edge team a few cycles to develop our own configuration examples, ”explains Ron Lipke, Platform Engineering Manager at Gannett.
Key features of the Developer Hub are high documentation search capabilities and sandbox test environments. The robust and easy to navigate changelogs and references will allow developers to learn about the extensive capabilities of the Varnish Confinguration Language and the Fastly API. Fastly Fiddle – a powerful and flexible sandbox testing environment – enables developers to test configurations without putting their production environments at risk.
“We’ve built a highly customizable platform with a wide range of developer-oriented features,” says Adam Denenberg, SVP of Customer Solutions at Fastly. «Our Developer Hub puts all the power of Fastly in the hands of developers, making it easier to find the tools they need, and helping them discover what our technology is capable of, with the aim of helping developers succeed by taking advantage the power of edge computing ».
Fastly Developer Hub: Resources
This resource portal allows you to support your workflows at the edge through additional tools and resources already planned such as:
Solutions and patterns library: Ready-to-deploy code snippets and development instructions that show developers how to do pretty much anything in Fastly, with everything they need to implement in their own configurations.
API and language references and changelogs: Reference documentation and release notes provide full access to all features available through the Fastly and VCL web interface.
Training for all levels: Fundamentals starter and training content helps developers learn about the Fastly platform. Includes technical descriptions, and a growing collection of optimization instructions and tools.
Technical articles on the blog: Training and leadership from Fastly’s development and engineering experts on our edge platform, learning from our network data and industry trends.
Fastly Fiddle: A sandbox testing environment to experiment with Fastly configurations and debugging custom code, without impacting developer production services.
The platform will include more tools and resources needed to learn and build on Compute @ Edge, the company’s serverless beta computing environment. More information | Fastly Developer Hub
