The Chinese giant has presented MIUI 12, a customization layer that is applied on Android, which is still the base operating system, and which allows adapt, modify and improve certain elements that affect the functionality and the experience of using said operating system.

Xiaomi has confirmed all the most important news that MIUI 12 brings, and has also shared a complete list of all the devices that They will be able to upgrade to that layer. This is good news since, as you will see later, in the list of compatible terminals that will be able to update to this version are some relatively “old” models. We do not make you wait any longer, we are going with the most important news.

MIUI 12 reinforces its commitment to privacy

That new version improves the privacy and protection of users, thanks to greater control of applications, the permissions we grant them and their behavior.

With MIUI 12 we have at our disposal the permission notifications that will indicate if any important element has been activated, like camera, geolocation or microphone in background. If this happens we will know, and we can change the permission settings that we have given to the different applications.

Greater control over permits equals greater protection, enhanced privacy and enhanced security. When applications request permissions, we will also have a greater variety of options. We may, for example, grant those permissions only on a limited basis (when using the app or “only once”), and we will have new location and metadata removal options before sharing photos.

New design and improved animations

Another of the most interesting news is in the new design of the user interface and in the animations, which have received a major facelift.

Thus, the animations of central elements have received an important set-up that is supported by the My Render Engine. Xiaomi has created a much smoother user interface, with a movement that simulates a 3D curvature. It is no coincidence, this aims to imitate the movement that we would obtain in real life.

Xiaomi says that it has been inspired by nature, and that it has reinforced the smoothness between the animations and the different transitions of the operating system. The “Super Wallpaper” It also plays an important role aesthetically, as it offers reconstructions of planetary forms based on official NASA statistics. They are combined with the always-on screen, the home screen and the lock screen.

MIUI 12 doesn’t forget about new features

We already have an idea of the key developments in security, design and interface, but there is still much more news to discover:

Multitask: MIUI 12 offers a state-of-the-art multitasking experience with floating windows that we can easily manage through the touch interface. Floating windows can be easily moved, closed and resized, improving and simplifying the user experience.
Screen relay– This feature has been greatly improved. Now it allows us to transmit documents, applications, videos and games with a single touch. This feature integrates seamlessly with multitasking, and we have the option to send items with the screen off to reduce power consumption, as well as prevent notifications and interface items from being displayed.
Greater autonomy: The MIUI 12 customization layer comes with an ultra power saving mode that minimizes consumption to improve autonomy. Very useful in extreme cases, since it deactivates the functions that consume the most battery, but allows you to make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and maintain connectivity.
Enhanced dark mode: now offers an improved color palette that applies to both the system and third-party applications. Automatically adjusts contrast to match ambient light, helps reduce eye strain and improves range on terminals with OLED panels.
Mobile AI Compute Engine: Xiaomi has introduced optimizations supported by an artificial intelligence system that will improve the user experience in many aspects. For example, we will have a system capable of automatically recognizing calls from unwanted numbers, helping us to improve our photographs and much more.
